The picture you see as background picture is not a random picture. It shows exactly what this site is about. At first sight, you see an old man who's sort of resting against the wall. However, this is George Klein, a WWII veteran from the 2nd ranger batallion. The 2nd ranger batallion climbed the cliffs of Pointe du Hoc in Normandy on June 6th 1944. Out of 225 rangers only 90 were able to continue fighting at the end of D-Day.

George went back in June 2015 to the same spot he climbed 71 years ago. While he was alone in the bunker with the plaque for his fallen comrades, all the memories of this horrific day came back to George.

What looks like an old man is actually a WWII veteran with many vivid memories. We may not forget the sacrifices that were made for the conquest of freedom, and we need to preserve as many personal wartime stories as we can. In the future, these stories will be the only way to see the past through the eyes of those who were there.
